Virtual Design Made Simple
Virtual interior design can sound abstract until you see how it actually works in practice. At Jessie K Homes, we've refined our e-design process to deliver the same thoughtful, personalized design our in-person Boston clients receive—just delivered through digital channels.
If you've been considering virtual interior design but aren't sure what to expect, here's a transparent, step-by-step walkthrough of exactly how we work with our e-design clients.
Step 1: Book Your Discovery Call
Time: 15 minutes | Cost: Free
Everything starts with a quick discovery call. This isn't a sales pitch—it's a casual conversation to determine if virtual design is the right fit for your project.
During this call, we'll discuss:
- Which rooms you'd like to design
- Your general style preferences
- Your budget range
- Your timeline and any deadlines
- Whether virtual design or in-person design is the better fit
If we're a good match, we'll send you a proposal with package options and next steps. If your project needs in-person service (renovation, new construction, etc.), we'll let you know honestly.

Step 2: Complete Your Design Questionnaire
Time: 30–45 minutes on your end
Once you sign on, we send you a detailed design questionnaire. This is where we learn everything we need to design your space:
- Lifestyle details: Who uses the room? How often? For what activities?
- Style preferences: Images of spaces you love (and hate), colors you're drawn to, materials you prefer
- Existing pieces: Furniture or decor you want to keep and incorporate
- Practical requirements: Storage needs, pet considerations, child-proofing, accessibility
- Budget parameters: Your comfort range for furniture, decor, and any additional work
This questionnaire replaces the in-person site visit. The more detail you provide, the more accurately we can design for your specific needs.
Step 3: Measure and Photograph Your Space
Time: 20–30 minutes on your end
We provide a simple measurement guide and photo checklist. Using your smartphone, you'll capture:
- Room dimensions (length, width, ceiling height)
- Window and door locations with sizes
- Photos from every corner of the room
- Close-ups of existing finishes (flooring, wall color, trim)
- Any architectural details (fireplace, built-ins, molding)
Don't worry about perfect photos—we just need an honest view of the space. A video walkthrough can be even more helpful than photos.
Step 4: Design Consultation (Video Call)
Time: 60–90 minutes
This is where the real design conversation happens. Over video, we review your questionnaire responses, discuss your space in detail, and explore design directions together.
By the end of this call, we'll have a clear understanding of:
- Your design vision and priorities
- The functional requirements of the space
- Budget allocation across furniture, textiles, and accessories
- A preliminary design direction to explore
Step 5: Concept Presentation
Delivered: 5–7 business days after consultation
We develop a complete design concept for your space and present it via a scheduled video call. This presentation includes:
Mood Board
A curated visual board showing the overall aesthetic direction—color palette, textures, materials, and the feeling of the finished space.
Floor Plan
A detailed layout showing furniture placement, traffic flow, and spatial proportions. Every piece is drawn to scale based on your room measurements.
Product Selections
Specific furniture, lighting, rugs, and accessories recommended for the space. Each item includes a photo, dimensions, price, and purchase link. Many items are available through our LTK shop for easy purchasing.
3D Renderings
Photorealistic visualizations of your designed space from 2–3 angles. These show exactly how the room will look with all selections in place.
Step 6: Revisions
Included: 2 revision rounds
After reviewing the initial concept, you share your feedback. Love the sofa but want to explore a different rug? Want to swap the pendant lights? Need to adjust the budget on a specific piece?
We incorporate your feedback and present a revised design. Most clients finalize their design within two revision rounds. Additional revisions are available at an hourly rate if needed.
Step 7: Final Design Package Delivery
Once you approve the final design, we compile your complete design package:
- Final mood board with approved design direction
- Dimensioned floor plan with furniture placement
- Complete shopping list with links, pricing, and alternates for every item
- 3D renderings of the final design
- Implementation guide with ordering timeline, styling tips, and arrangement instructions
- Paint specifications with exact colors and sheens per surface
This package is yours to keep and reference throughout implementation.
Step 8: Implementation Support
Ongoing: 30 days after delivery
You don't have to figure out the rest alone. For 30 days after receiving your design package, we're available via email for:
- Questions about ordering or substitutions
- Guidance on furniture assembly or placement
- Advice if an item is out of stock and you need an alternate
- Styling tips as pieces arrive and you begin arranging the room

Virtual Design FAQ
How long does the whole process take?
Most single-room projects are completed in 2–3 weeks from consultation to final delivery. Multi-room projects typically take 4–6 weeks.
Can I mix virtual and in-person services?
Absolutely. Some clients start with virtual design to establish the vision, then bring us in for specific implementation support. For clients in the Greater Boston area, we can easily transition between service models.
What if I need help with renovation, not just furnishing?
For projects involving construction, structural changes, or contractor coordination, our in-person design services are a better fit. We'll recommend the right service level during your discovery call.
Do you only work with Boston clients?
Not at all. Our virtual design services are available nationwide. While our in-person work is focused on Greater Boston—from Cambridge to Wellesley—our virtual design clients are located across the country.
Ready to Start?
Virtual design removes the barriers of geography and schedule while delivering genuine, personalized design expertise. If you're ready to transform your space—whether you're around the corner or across the country—we'd love to help.
